Family Recovery Arc

Addiction is a family disease.  Recovery requires healing from the whole family.  This course in RecoveryArc features 30 daily sessions dedicated to family healing.  Each session will focus on different themes for a fulfilling family recovery.  As part of my family teaching lecture series at the University of Colorado – CeDAR, I’ve built a sensible framework for families to learn and grow with quality information.  This course is based on all of the rotating topics we cover through that family program.

The course will begin will concepts of basic addiction education.  These include the epidemiology behind addiction as a chronic disease process, data around neuroscience and functional patterns of addiction, and information about levels of addiction care.

The middle of the course will review some of the common road-blocks families find in seeking recovery.  These often include dramatic patterns, enabling and codependency, and patterns of disengagement.

Finally, the course will review long-term therapy goals for you with an emphasis on healthy communication patterns, building greater insight into relationships, and preventing relapse.

As with all of RecoveryArc’s  courses, you will find print articles, podcasts, and video/diagram content.  Providing you with the information is my goal and using a multi-modal approach is the most effective way to help you retain these topics for your family’s healing.

Session 1  FREE SESSION   Sessions 2-5  LOGIN REQUIRED

These sessions provide an introduction for addiction as a chronic disease process.  They also discuss levels of treatment and what is available to help your family build a stable recovery from alcoholism or drug abuse.

Sessions 6-10   LOGIN REQUIRED

These sessions explore one of the most common psychological issues in families with addiction – the Drama Triangle.  They also explore some advanced psychological principles at play within different family members.

Sessions 11-15   LOGIN REQUIRED

These sessions explore some common family therapy concepts including communication pitfalls, self-care goals, and research around young adults with addictive disorders.  Some of the goals of early recovery involve hope, treatment engagement, and patience as relapses are common and can feel discouraging.  Appreciating how common this is can help ease some frustration and continue working towards health and recovery.

Sessions 16-20   LOGIN REQUIRED

These premium sessions explore medication approaches to address relapse prevention issues as well as common dual diagnosis conditions.  These approaches emphasize strong medical efficacy blended with safety approaches for your family member.

Sessions 21-25   LOGIN REQUIRED

These sessions all tie into some of the analysis of the Harvard Cohort, specifically that of attachment theory and shame connected to the addiction cycle.  Plans with accountability are also discussed, as they carry high success rates.

Sessions 26-30   LOGIN REQUIRED

The final sessions of our family recovery program focus on advanced family therapy goals, approaches used to heal professionals, and building-blocks of long-term recovery.
